Frequently Asked Questions

When is the season?

Pre-season starts in July with the actual season running from October to February.

Are you looking for new players?

Yes, we are always looking for new players! Whether this is your first time playing or you are a veteran player, everyone is welcome. We are always looking for more coaches and volunteers too! If you have any questions, or would like to get involved, send us a message on our Facebook page or introduce yourself at one of our training sessions.

When and where do you train?

Our home ground is at Warrandyte Park, Craigie. Our training days and venues occasionally change in the leadup to the season, so please get in touch to confirm the exact time and location of our training sessions.

Feel free to come on down to check it out! Just bring a water bottle and football boots/cleats if you have any (however not essential). No experience required!

Where do you play?

Games are played all across the Perth metropolitan area. Our home ground is located in Craigie, and we travel as far down to Rockingham and out to Stratton. For the most up to date fixtures, check out the Gridiron West website.

I don’t know the rules, will I be able to play?

Of course! Many players start out not knowing many of the rules, other than those they see on TV. Our coaches are there to help you learn the game! In the meantime, Gridiron West is governed by the rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). You can download the latest Football Rules and Interpretations of the NCAA here.

I don’t have a helmet or shoulder pads?

That’s OK, the West Coast Wolverines will provide all the protective equipment you need, including shoulder pads and helmets for all shapes and sizes. Or, if you were looking to grab your own gear, you can purchase the latest Xenith equipment from our sponsor!

Is there anything I need to supply?

All you need to bring is cleats (football boots), a mouth guard (not white or clear), and a water bottle.

How much does it cost to play?

Our fees differ depending which squad you are playing for, but generally fees are approx. $380-$480.00 each season. This will cover your Gridiron West and Gridiron Australia registrations, third-party public liability insurance, gameday payments, protective equipment (i.e. helmet and pads), gameday uniform, a polo shirt, plus much more. Our Under 19 players may be eligible for a KidSport grant of up to $200 off per financial year. We also offer other discounts, such as FIFO rates; payment plans are available too! All enquiries should be directed to the Club Treasurer, Arran Webzell, at

How do I apply for a KidSport grant?

You can check out how to apply for KidSport financial assistance on the website for Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries at If you have any issues completing your registration, feel free to get in touch and we can give you a hand.

Do you sign international players and coaches?

Yes we do. If you are an international player looking to play or coach down under,  send us a message on our Facebook page. Please note that Gridiron West is an amateur league, so we are not able to pay our participants. Please feel free to reach out to discuss the options available to you.

I’m looking for a team that is inclusive with a great social scene, would this be for me?

The Wolverines are a family. While we are Three Squads, we are One Team, and we look for every opportunity to get our #WolverinesFamily together! We host a number of social events throughout the year including our Season Launch Party, a Quiz Night, Superbowl Party, Awards Night and more! Check out our Facebook page for photos of some of our past events, and keep an eye out for upcoming events!

If you have any other questions, please send them through to us via the ‘Contact Us‘ page or send us a direct message on our Facebook page.
